our new
collection

Top therapy is a social bouldering project aimed at promoting mental and physical health while offering new perspectives to people in challenging life situations. We strive to provide support in a straightforward and unbureaucratic way.

Our project is funded through sales of our merchandise, as well as direct collaboration with bouldering and climbing gyms and sponsors. Our goal is to make bouldering accessible to as many people as possible.

Authenticity is important to us. That’s why all designs are created by people who boulder themselves and are part of the community. All our T-shirts are hand-printed, which means small imperfections and irregularities may occur.

How Bouldering can help against depression

1. Bouldering stops rumination

While endurance sports help reduce stress and release endorphins, activities like jogging or swimming still allow the mind to dwell on negative thoughts. Bouldering, on the other hand, demands full attention to navigate the climbing wall. You can’t think about anything else but which hold to use next. This focus gives the overthinking mind a much-needed break.

2. Bouldering boosts self-esteem

The holds on a climbing wall are aptly called „problems.“ Climbers tackle these problems by finding a way to climb upwards. For people with depression, this challenge and the sense of accomplishment it provides can help them test their limits and grow beyond them. This process can strengthen self-esteem. Additionally, bouldering requires no special prior knowledge. Climbers can choose the difficulty and height of their challenges, giving them control over their experience.

3. Bouldering awakens emotions

Many people experiencing depression struggle to connect with their emotions and feel an inner emptiness. Climbing can evoke a range of emotions—from fear and frustration when failing a route to joy and satisfaction upon reaching the top. Like in real life, not all problems can be solved immediately on the wall. Some require patience and training. Regular bouldering helps individuals practice managing their emotions.

4. Bouldering is social

Anyone who’s been to a bouldering gym knows that it is a highly social activity. Even though climbing is an individual effort, many people go in groups. Together, they discuss routes and cheer each other on. Instead of competing, climbers often help one another. For people with depression, who often isolate themselves, this sense of community can be a healing experience.

Boulder sessions with our trainers

You don’t want to start on your own but prefer to gain your first experiences together with others? No problem! We regularly aim to offer open sessions with qualified trainers. Just join our meetups and connect with like-minded people.
Note: Our sessions are open for everyone. Beginners, pros, allies & everyone who wants to have a good time.

Our Sessions

In bouldering, the goal is to reach the final hold, the »Top«, to complete the problem. »Therapy« refers to all measures aimed at positively influencing the state of mental trauma and distress.

Important

Our services are not a substitute for psychotherapy with trained professionals. Instead, they are intended as a complementary approach or as support to bridge the gap until a permanent psychotherapy spot becomes available. If you are experiencing acute mental health issues, please contact emergency services directly.
